This blog connects trauma survivors with ideas of community support. Healing from trauma requires connecting to others for warmth, support and encouragement. CROWNED suggests our community to reach out to your community, especially when family support and friends are limited.

Community Supports & Suggestions

  • Growing in God / Christ -volunteering at soup kitchens, bake sells, social events,

  • Faith Based Social Services

  • Becoming a member at a Church that is rooted in sound word

  • Pantry

  • Hospitals: some have workshops and trainings you can participate in and/ or be a volunteer

  • Goodwill and thrifting shops

  • Neighbors

  • School boards like PTA or volunteering opportunities

  • Library: Many have special classes and events that you can grow and develop yourself and meet many new people

  • Coffee shops

  • Gyms- can meet friends, workout buddies and get your body in shape. Some jobs have discounts for memberships

  • In New York they have IDNYC cards that gives you discounts or free entry to museums and zoos

  • Local Parks- have exercising events, concerts, free movie nights, free events

  • Go to food smorgasburg events / food events

  • Volunteer at your local stadium or event halls

  • Join a social healing community like CROWN

  • Visit hospitals and take time to see people that may not have visitors

  • Become a community advocate

  • Join local community groups / boards

  • NYC 311 -Non emergency city services or your local non emergency service number

  • Parent Groups

  • Community colleges / colleges -volunteer and they may have free classes or workshops

  • Hiring events

  • Free governmental assistance

  • Volunteer at a pet shop if you love animals

  • Get in tough with your local museums which does a lot of programs, workshops and events

  • Supporting housing or transitional housing programs
